RésumeA motivating question for the concept of active sum is: To what extent can one recover a group from a generating family of subgroups, closed under conjugation, and their mutual actions? In this talk we will see the definition of active sum, some examples of groups which are active sums of cyclic subgroups and finally the case of metacyclic groups. While for some time it was unknown whether every finite metacyclic group was the active sum of a family of cyclic subgroups, a positive answer to this question was recently given in joint work with A. Díaz-Barriga, F. González-Acuña and F. Marmolejo.
