Siegel Zeros and Class-Numbers

(Un exposé de Harold Stark au séminaire de théorie des nombres de Chevaleret le 17 avril 2000)

Résumé :

It has long been known that in the absence of "Siegel zeros" (real zeros of zeta functions very near s=1), class-numbers of CM fields of fixed degree go to infinity as the field varies and effectively so. Twenty five years ago, we learned how to handle CM fields of varing degree provided Artin L-functions are entire. In this talk, we will discuss possible methods of dealing with Siegel zeros, should they exist.
