The aim of this talk is to present examples of constructions involving amalgamation families of finite-dimensional normed spaces,
and to explain a general theory that can be framed as part of continuous model theory.
Among the examples of families considered, we will include the class of normed subspaces, the class of subspaces of L_p-spaces,
and the class of complemented subspaces.
