Coherent sheaves play a central role in complex geometry. A classical theorem of Grauert (1960) asserts that coherence is preserved under proper holomorphic maps between complex analytic spaces. In this talk, I will describe a new approach via antiholomorphic superconnections, which yields a global resolution of coherent sheaves, thereby providing an alternative proof of Grauerts direct image theorem. This is joint work with Shu Shen
