+ Alexander Rashkovski Plurisubharmonic geodesics and plurisubharmonic interpolation 12/03/2024 14:00

For any negative psh function on a bounded domain of \(C^n\), we construct a psh function determined by the asymptotical behavior of the given function near its singularity points, both inside the domain and on its boundary. We study properties of such ‘residual functions’ and their relations to asymptotic psh rooftops. The considerations are motivated by a problem on when two given psh functions can be connected by a psh geodesic.

+ Artem Pulemotov Palais–Smale sequences for the prescribed Ricci curvature functional 06/02/2024 14:00

On homogeneous spaces, solutions to the prescribed Ricci curvature equation coincide with the critical points of the scalar curvature functional subject to a constraint. We provide a complete description of Palais–Smale sequences for this functional. As an application, we obtain new existence results for the prescribed Ricci curvature equation, which enables us to observe previously unseen phenomena.

I will outline my work arXiv:2203.06950 on L2 constructible cohomology, Mixed Hodge structures on the reduced L2 cohomology of a Mixed Hodge Module and its most recent developments due to my student Bastien Jean arXiv:2211.11605

+ Marco Usula YangMills connections on conformally compact manifolds 12/12/2023 14:00

A conformally compact manifold is a complete Riemannian manifold with asymptotically negative curvature and with smooth compactification. We discuss the YangMills equations in this geometric context. It turns out that one can consider standard (i.e. smooth up to infinity) solutions, or solutions with a more complicated singularity (a Nahm pole) at infinity. We discuss a perturbative result in the standard case, along with a more complicated boundary value problem for singular instantons in dimension 4.

+ Simon Jubert Yau–Tian–Donaldson correspondence on a class of toric fibrations 05/12/2023 14:00

The Yau–Tian–Donaldson conjecture predicts that the existence of an extremal metric (in the sense of Calabi) in a given Kähler class of Kähler manifold is equivalent to a certain algebro-geometric notion of stability of this class. In this talk, we will discuss a resolution of this conjecture for a certain type of toric fibrations, called semisimple principal toric fibrations. One of the main assets of these fibrations is that they come equipped with a connection which allows defining, from any Kähler metrics on the toric fiber X, a Kähler metric on the total space Y. After an introduction to the Calabi Problem for general compact Kähler manifolds, we will focus on the weighted toric setting. Then, I will explain how to translate the Calabi problem on Y, to a weighted cscK problem on the corresponding toric fiber X (arxiv paper: arXiv:2108.12297

+ Chung-Min Pan Canonical metrics and pluripotential theory along degenerate families 28/11/2023 14:00

Searching for canonical metrics in Kähler classes has been a central theme in Kähler geometry for decades. This talk aims to explain a method for studying singular canonical metrics in families of singular varieties with a relative pluripotential theory and a variational approach in families. The main focus of the talk will be the singular Kähler-Einstein (KE) metrics on families of Fano varieties. Following a brief review of singular KE metrics and a variational method, I will introduce a notion of convergence of quasi-plurisubharmonic functions in families. Several classical properties will be extended under this framework. Then, I will present an Euclidien openness result of the existence of KE metrics via an analytic method and how to establish uniform a priori estimates in families. If time permits, we will conclude by exploring the potential development of this method to study singular cscK metrics.

+ Dror Varolin Singular hermitian metrics for holomorphic vector bundles 14/11/2023 14:00

Singular hermitian metrics for holomorphic line bundles have long played a leading role in many areas of complex analysis and geometry. By contrast, the higher rank case is relatively new, in part because there are difficulties in trying to define the curvature. A breakthrough originating in the work of Berndtsson and Paun is to abandon the curvature itself, and instead try to define a notion of positive curvature. They succeeded in defining Griffiths positivity, but Nakano positivity remained illusive. Since then, notions of Nakano positivity have been introduced, but their flavor is more based in PDE than Geometry. I will present and discuss a notion that I recently proposed, as well as some applications.

+ Yi Wang Yamabe flow of asymptotically flat metrics 24/10/2023 14:00

In this talk, we will discuss the behavior of the Yamabe flow on an asymptotically flat (AF) manifold. We will first show the long-time existence of the Yamabe flow starting from an AF manifold and discuss the uniform estimates on manifolds with positive Yamabe constant. This would allow us to prove global weighted convergence along the Yamabe flow on such manifolds. We will also talk about the case when the Yamabe constant is nonpositive. This is joint work with Eric Chen and Gilles Carron.

+ Ken-ichi Yoshikawa Eisenstein K3 surfaces, equivariant analytic torsion, and automorphic forms on complex balls 16/10/2023 14:00

A pair consisting of a K3 surface and a non-symplectcic automorphism of order three is called an Eisenstein K3 surface. We introduce an invariant of Eisenstein K3 surfaces, which we obtain using the equivariant analytic torsion of an Eisenstein K3 surface and the analytic torsion of its fixed locus. Then this invariant gives rise to a function on the moduli space of Eisenstein K3 surfaces, which consists of 24 connected components and each of which is a complex ball quotient depending on the topological type of the automorphism of order three. Our main result is that, for each topological type, the invariant is expressed as the product of the Petersson norms of two kinds of automorphic forms, one is an automorphic form on the complex ball and the other is a Siegel modular form. In many cases, the automorphic form on the complex ball obtained in this way is a so-called reflective modular form. In some cases, this automorphic form is obtained as the restriction of an explicit Borcherds product to the complex ball. This is a joint work with Shu Kawaguchi.

+ Oscar Garcia Prada Cyclic Higgs bundles and the Toledo invariant 10/10/2023 14:00

Given a compact Riemann surface X and a semisimple complex Lie group G, we consider the moduli space M(X,G) of G-Higgs bundles over X. Cyclic Higgs bundles are fixed points in M(X,G) under the action of a finite cyclic group. These are described in terms of Vinberg pairs defined by a Z/mZ-grading of the Lie algebra of G. When m=2 the fixed points are in bijection, under the non-abelian Hodge correspondence, with representations of the fundamental group of X into real forms of G. Based on recent joint work with Biquard, Collier and Toledo, in this talk I will describe a generalization of the Toledo invariant and Milnor-Wood type inequality for a certain class of cyclic Higgs bundles (joint work with Miguel Gonzalez).

+ Mattias Jonsson exposé annulé - A tropical Monge-Ampere equation with applications to the SYZ conjecture 03/10/2023 14:00

exposé annulé - We show how to define and solve the Monge–Ampère equations on the boundary of a symmetric simplex. Through the work of Yang Li, this has ramifications for the SYZ conjecture, on the existence of special Langrangian fibrations for a degenerating family of Calabi–Yau hypersurfaces of projective space.

+ ucas Lavoyer de Miranda Ricci flow from spaces with edge type conical singularities 06/06/2023 14:00

In this talk, we will construct a solution to Ricci flow coming out of spaces with edge type conical singularities along a closed, embedded curve, under the additional assumption that for each point of the curve, our space is locally modelled on the product of a fixed positively curved cone and a line. We also prove curvature estimates for the solution and, for edge points, we show that the tangent flow at these points is a positively curved expanding gradient Ricci soliton solution crossed with a line.

+ Tobias Lamm Index estimates for sequences of harmonic maps 23/05/2023 14:00

We study the limiting behavior of the index and the nullity of sequences of harmonic maps from a two-dimensional Riemannsurface into a general target manifold. We show upper and lower bounds for the index of thesequence in terms of the index of the so called bubble limit. This is a joint work with Jonas Hirsch (Leipzig).

On parlera ensuite d’applications.

+ Jason Lotay Stability and neck pinches in Lagrangian mean curvature flow 18/04/2023 14:00

The famous relation between stability of holomorphic vector bundles and existence of Hermitian Yang-Mills connections can be demonstrated using Yang-Mills flow. Motivated by this theory and mirror symmetry, Thomas-Yau conjectured a stability condition for Lagrangian mean curvature flow which detects when the flow wants to break up the Lagrangian. When such break up occurs in the flow it is expected to be a singularity called a neck pinch. I will report on joint work with F. Schulze and G. Szekelyhidi which shows that, for Lagrangian surfaces, Thomas-Yau stability does indeed rule out neck pinch singularities breaking up the Lagrangian along the flow.

+ Ood Shabtai Pairs of spectral projections of spin operators 11/04/2023 14:00

We study the semiclassical behavior of an arbitrary bivariate polynomial, evaluated on certain spectral projections of spin operators, and contrast it with the behavior of the polynomial when evaluated on random pairs of projections.

Index estimates for sequences of harmonic maps 28/03/2023 14:00

+ Yuji Odaka Collapsing of compact hyperKahler metrics PL limit density function on intervals, and moduli compactification 14/03/2023 14:00

This talk is partially based on a joint work with Yoshiki Oshima (e.g. Memoir MSJ, vol.40 and its subsequent works). We give a conjectural but totally explicit description of collapsed limits of K3 surfaces with the hyperKahler metrics. The actual framework we found is more general and at the level of moduli, i.e., the Gromov-Hausdorff compactification of their moduli and identifies it with certain Satake / Morgan-Shalen type compactification. We do also for other Kahler-Einstein manifolds, which turned out to follow the similar rules. Focusing on K3 case, the case of collapse to S2 is fully proven by using the Siegel/Satake type reduction theory to reduce to some extension of the work of Gross-Wilson/Gross-Tosatti-Zhang, leading to a proof of Kontsevich-Soibelman conjecture. In the case of collapsing to interval, the limit density function is a piecewise-linear convex function with at
most 18th bend points, which we explicitly describe. Many parts of these works have various algebraic geometry / non-archimedean geometry interpretation, which we also partially explain, with a reminiscence of Yau-Tian-Donaldson correspondence

+ Daniele Semola Isoperimetry and lower curvature bounds 07/02/2023 14:00

There is a well known connection between curvature and isoperimetric inequalities on smooth Riemannian manifolds, motivated in particular by the presence of a Ricci curvature term in the second variation formula for the area of hypersurfaces. The goal of this talk will be to review some recent developments around this classical topic and to illustrate the role of geometric analysis on non smooth metric measure spaces

+ Keita Goto On affine structures which come from Berkovich geometry 31/01/2023 14:00

In the SYZ mirror symmetry context, SYZ fibrations are often studied. In particular, it is well known thatthey induce affine structures on their base spaces. On the other hand, Kontsevich and Soibelman introduce a non-Archimedean analog of SYZ fibrations, which is called non-Archimedean SYZ fibrations later. Non-Archimedean SYZ fibrations induce affine structures as well as SYZ fibrations. Moreover, they predict a certain equivalence between SYZ fibrations and non-Archimedean SYZ fibrations for maximally degenerating family of polarized Calabi-Yau varieties. In particular, two affine structures coming from these different origins are expected to coincide. We proved the equivalence for K-trivial finite quotients of polarized abelian varieties by introducing what we call hybrid SYZ fibrations. In this talk, we introduce the above theorem. This talk is based on a joint work (https://arxiv.org/abs/2206.14474) with Yuji Odak.

+ Joshua Holgate Approximation of mean curvature flow with generic singularities by smooth flows with surgery 24/01/2023 14:00

Mean curvature flow can be viewed as the heat equation for an embedding. Indeed, on short time scales MCF will improve the regularity of the embedding. Moreover, smooth MCF is an isotopy, making it an attractive tool for answering questions concerning the geometry and topology of embeddings. Unfortunately, MCF from a compact initial condition will form singularities in finite time, posing an obstruction to the construction of isotopies. MCF with surgery was introduced by HuiskenSinestrari for 2-convex hypersurfaces in order to avoid such singularities. I will show how recent results of Choi-Haslhofer-Hershkovits and Choi-Haslhofer-Hershkovits-White regarding mean-convex neighbourhoods can be combined with the 2-convex surgery procedure of HaslhoferKleiner to construct a MCF with surgery that approximates a mean curvature flow in which 2-convexity is only assumed on the singularity models, rather than on the entire flow. I will also present some topological application

+ Siarhei Finski Submultiplicative norms and filtrations on section rings 17/01/2023 14:00

We show that submultiplicative norms on section rings of polarised projective manifolds are asymptotically equivalent to sup-norms associated with metrics on the polarising line bundle. As an application, we study Narasimhan-Simha pseudonorms over canonical section rings and submultiplicative filtrations. The holomorphic extension theorem of Ohsawa and Takegoshi, pluripotential theory and the study of projective tensor norms play a prominent role in our work.

+ Özür Kisisel Expected measures of amoebas of random plane curves 10/01/2023 14:00

There are several natural measures that can be placed on the amoeba of an algebraic curve in the complex projective plane. Passare and Rullgard proved that the total mass of the Lebesgue measure on an amoeba of a curve of degree d is bounded above by π²/2, by comparing it to another Monge-Ampère type measure, which is dual to the usual measure on the Newton polytope of the defining polynomial via the Legendre transform. Mikhalkin generalizes this upper bound to half-dimensional complete intersections in higher dimensions, by considering another measure supported on their amoebas; their multivolume. The goal of this talk will be to discuss these measures in the setting of random plane curves. In particular, I'll first present our results with Bayraktar, showing that the expected multiarea of the amoeba  of a random Kostlan degree d curve is equal to π²d. For Lebesgue measure, it turns out that the expected asymptotics are much lower: I'll describe our results with Welschinger, showing that the expected Lebesgue area of the amoeba of a random Kostlan degree d curve is of the order ln(d.

+ Min Ru On Nevanlinna and algebraic hyperbolicity 13/12/2022 14:00

Motived by the notion of the algebraic hyperbolicity introduced by X. Chen, we introduce the notion of Nevanlinna hyperbolicity for a pair (X, D), where X is a projective variety and D is an effective Catier divisor on X. This notion links and unifies the Nevanlinna theory, the complex hyperbolicity (Brody and Kobayashi hyperbolicity), the big Picard type extension theorem (more generally the Borel hyperbolicity). It also implies the algebraic hyperbolicity. The key is to use the Nevanlinna theory on parabolic Riemann surfaces recently developed by Paun and Sibony. This is a joint work with Yan He.

+ Simon Jubert A Yau-Tian-Donaldson correspondence on a class of toric fibrations 29/11/2022 14:00

The Yau-Tian-Donaldson (YTD) conjecture predicts that the existence of an extremal metric (in the sense of Calabi) in a given Kähler class of Kähler manifold is equivalent to a certain algebro-geometric notion of stability of this class. In this talk, we will discuss the resolution of this conjecture for a certain class of toric fibrations, called semisimple principal toric fibrations. After an introduction to the Calabi Problem for general Kähler manifolds, we will focus on the toric setting. Then we will see how to reduce the Calabi problem on the total space of a semisimple principal toric fibration to a weighted constant scalar curvature Kähler problem on the toric fibers. If the time allows, I will giveelements of proof. (preprint: arXiv:2108.12297)

+ Jan Bohr On transport twistor spaces 22/11/2022 14:00

For 2-dimensional Riemannian manifolds there is a rich interplay between the geodesic transport equation on the unit tangent bundle and Fourier analysis in the vertical fibres. This interplay has shaped the understanding of many geometric inverse problems and rigidity questions since the late 1970s. The transport twistor space is a (degenerate) complex 2-dimensional manifold Z which encodes this interplay and sheds new light on numerous aspects of the transport equation by translating them into a complex geometric language. The focus of the talk will lie on these novel twistor
correspondences, as well as two results regarding the algebra of holomorphic functions on Z in the case of closed surfaces and the (lack of) holomorphic vector bundles in the case of simple surfaces, both of which solve an open problem for the transport equation. This is based on joint work with Thibault Lefeuvre and Gabriel Paternain.

+ Peter Smillie Non-uniqueness of minimal surfaces in locally symmetric spaces 08/11/2022 14:00

If G is a split real Lie group of rank 2, for instance SL(3, R), and S is a closed surface of genus at least 2, then Labourie showed that every Hitchin representation of π1(S) into G admits a unique equivariant minimal surface. As Labourie explained, this fact lets you parametrise the space of Hitchin representations by the total space of a vector bundle over the Teichmuller space of S. He conjectured that uniqueness should hold more generally, at least for all SL(n, R).
In joint work with Nathaniel Sagman, we show that for any split G of rank at least 3, and for any S, there is a Hitchin representation with two distinct equivariant minimal surfaces, disproving Labourie’s conjecture. I will explain our construction, which starts from minimal surfaces in R3, and discuss the implications for parametrising the space of Hitchin representations

+ Maxwell Stolarski Closed Ricci Flows with Singularities Modeled on Asymptotically Conical Shrinkers 18/10/2022 14:00
Ricci solitons are Ricci flow solutions that self-similarly shrink
under the flow. Their significance comes from the fact that finite-time Ricci flow
singularities are typically modeled on gradient shrinking Ricci solitons. Here,
we shall address a certain converse question, namely, “Given a complete,
noncompact gradient shrinking Ricci soliton, does there exist a Ricci flow on
a closed manifold that forms a finite-time singularity modeled on the given soliton?”
We’ll discuss work that shows the answer is yes when the soliton is asymptotically
conical. No symmetry or Kahler assumption is required, and so the proof involves
an analysis of the Ricci flow as a nonlinear degenerate parabolic PDE system in its
full complexity. We’ll also discuss applications to the (non-)uniqueness of
weak Ricci flows through singularities.

+ Chin-Yu Hsiao Semi-classical spectral asymptotics of Toeplitz operators on CR manifolds 04/10/2022 14:00
Let X be a compact strongly pseudoconvex CR manifold and let TP be the
Toeplitz operator on X, where P is a first order pseudodifferential operator.
We consider χk(TP ) the function calculus of TP rescaled by a cut-off function χ.
In this work, we show that χk(TP) admits a full asymptotic expansion in k.
As applications, we obtain several CR analogous of Theorems concerning high
power of line bundles in complex geometry but without any group action assumptions
on the CR manifold. This is a joint work with Hendrik Herrmann, George Marinescu and Wei-Chuan Shen.
+ Ronan Conlon Asymptotically conical Calabi-Yau manifolds 24/06/2022 11:00
Asymptotically conical Calabi-Yau manifolds are non-compact Ricci-flat Kähler manifolds that are modelled on a Ricci-flat Kähler cone
at infinity. I will present a classification result for such manifolds. This is joint work with Hans-Joachim Hein (Fordham/Muenster).

+ Joel Fine Knots, minimal surfaces and J-holomorphic curves 31/05/2022 14:00

Let K be a knot or link in the 3-sphere, thought of as the ideal boundary of hyperbolic 4-space, H. The main theme of my talk is that it should be possible to count minimal surfaces in H which fill K and obtain a link invariant. In other words, the count doesn’t change under isotopies of K. When one counts minimal disks, this is a theorem. Unfortunately there is currently a gap in the proof for more complicated surfaces. I will explain “morally” why the result should be true and how I intend to fill the gap. In fact, this (currently conjectural) invariant is a kind of Gromov—Witten invariant, counting J-holomorphic curves in a certain symplectic 6-manifold diffeomorphic to SxH. The symplectic structure becomes singular at infinity, in directions transverse to the S fibres. These singularities mean that both the Fredholm and compactness theories have fundamentally new features, which I will describe. Finally, there is a whole class of infinite-volume symplectic 6-manifolds which have singularities modelled on the above situation. If there is time, I will explain how it should be possible to count J-holomorphic curves in these manifolds too, and obtain invariants for links in other 3-manifolds.

+ Xiaowei Wang Moment map and convex functions 24/05/2022 14:00

We will present a theory of the moment map coupled with a convex function and study the property of the corresponding critical point of composing functional. As an application, we interpret the Kahler-Ricci solitons as a special case of the generalized extremal metric. This is a joint work with King-Leung Lee and Jacob Sturm.

+ Ilia Zharkov Compactifying symplectic SYZ fibrations 05/04/2022 14:00

Starting with an integral ane manifold with (semi-)simple singularities in codimension 2, there is a tautological symplectic manifold over its smooth part, which is the cotangent torus bundle of the base. I will explain a procedure that potentially produces a symplectic manifold which is a compactification of the tautological bration extending it to the discriminant. I will spend most of the time talking about the local model \(xy...z = 1 + w_{1} + ...+ w_{n}\).

+ Zhe Sun McShane identities and the Goncharov-Shen potential for Higher Teichmuller theory 22/03/2022 14:00
McShane established a remarkable identity for the lengths of simple closed geodesics on the hyperbolic surface with cusps. Mirzakhani extended McShane identity to obtain a beautiful recursive formula for the volumes of the moduli spaces of the Riemann surfaces, which again proved the Witten-Kontsevich theorem. On the other hand, Goncharov and Shen formulated an explicit homological mirror symmetry on two variations of moduli spaces of G-local systems using the so-called Goncharov-Shen potential. Using these Goncharov-Shen potentials, we found a collection of new McShane-type identities parametrized by the pairs (cusp/hole, simple positive root), which are the analogs of McShane-Mirzakhani identities with new parameters in the case of higher rank Lie groups, which provided us some expectations to generalize Mirzakhani's recursive formula to the higher rank cases
+ Peter Topping Ricci flows at time zero 15/03/2022 14:00
Most Ricci flow theory takes the short-time existence of solutions as a starting point and ends up concerned with understanding the long-time limiting behaviour and the structure of any finite-time singularities that may develop along the way. In this talk I will look at what you can think of as singularities at time zero. I will describe some of the situations in which one would like to start a Ricci flow with a space that is rougher than a smooth Riemannian manifold, and some of the situations in which one considers smooth initial data that is only achieved in a non-smooth way. I will assume basic knowledge of Riemannian geometry, but will not be assuming expertise in Ricci flow theory.
+ Bingxiao Liu Large deviation estimates for zeros of random holomorphic sections on punctured Riemann surfaces 08/03/2022 14:00 101 ; 1er étage ; couloir 15-16
I would like to explain the large deviation estimates for zeros of random holomorphic sections on;punctured Riemann surfaces. These estimates are then employed to yield estimates for the respective hole probabilities. A particular case covered by our setting is that of cusp forms on arithmetic surfaces. Most of the results we obtain allow for reasonably general probability distributions on holomorphic sections, which shows the universality of these estimates. We also extend these results to the case of certain higher dimensional complete Hermitian manifolds, which are not necessarily assumed to be compact.
+ Omid Amini Moduli of hybrid curves: hybrid Laplacian and asymptotics of the Arakelov Green function 22/02/2022 14:00
In this sequel to our work on moduli space of hybrid curves, we define a hybrid notion of Laplacian, formulate a hybrid Poisson equation, and give a mathematical meaning to the question of the convergence both of the Laplace operator and the solutions to the Poisson equation on Riemann surfaces. As an application, we formulate a hybrid notion of Green function and use this to obtain a layered description of the asymptotics of Arakelov Green functions on Riemann surfaces close to the boundary of their moduli spaces. This solves a well-studied problem arising from the Arakelov geometry of Riemann surfaces. Based on joint works with Noema Nicolussi.
+ Hans-Joachim Hein Kähler-Einstein metrics on complex hyperbolic cusps and degenerations of surfaces of general type 15/02/2022 14:00
A complex hyperbolic cusp is an end of a finite-volume quotient of complex hyperbolic space. Up to a finite cover, any such cusp can be realized as the punctured unit disk bundle of a negative line bundle over an abelian variety. The Dirichlet problem for complete Kähler-Einstein metrics on this space with boundary data prescribed on the unit circle bundle is well-posed. We determine the precise asymptotics of its solutions towards the zero section. I will also explain an application to the geometry of degenerating Kähler-Einstein metrics on surfaces of general type via gluing. This is joint work with Xin Fu and Xumin Jiang.
+ Charles Cifarelli Kähler-Ricci solitons and toric geometry 08/02/2022 14:00
Kähler-Ricci solitons are a natural generalization of the concept of a Kähler-Einstein metric which arise in the study of the Kähler-Ricci flow. In particular, shrinking gradient Kähler-Ricci solitons on non-compact manifolds model the singularity development of the Kähler-Ricci flow. In this talk, I will present some of my thesis work on the uniqueness of shrinking gradient Kähler-Ricci solitons on non-compact toric manifolds. In particular, the standard product of the Fubini-Study metric on CP¹ (the round metric on S²) and the Euclidean metric on C is the only shrinking gradient Kähler-Ricci soliton on CP¹ x C with bounded scalar curvature.
+ Andrea Seppi Rigidity of minimal Lagrangian di eomorphisms between spherical cone surfaces 01/02/2022 14:00
Minimal Lagrangian maps play an important role in Teichmïller theory, with important existence and uniqueness results for hyperbolic surfaces obtained by Labourie, Schoen, Bonsante-Schlenker, Toulisse and others. In positive curvature, it is thus natural to ask whether one can find minimal Lagrangian diffeomorphisms between two spherical surfaces with cone points. In this talk we will show that the answer is negative, unless the two surfaces are isometric. As an application, we obtain a generalization of Liebmann's theorem for branched immersions of constant curvature in Euclidean space. This is joint work with Christian El Emam.
+ Siarhei Finski Semiclassical Ohsawa-Takegoshi extension theorem 18/01/2022 14:00
Ohsawa and Takegoshi in 1987 gave a sufficient condition under which a holomorphic section of a vector bundle on the submanifold extends to the holomorphic section over the ambient manifold. In this talk, in the semiclassical setting, i.e. when the section is taken from a suffiently big tensor power of a positive line bundle, we provide an explicit asymptotic formula for the optimal extension operator. We derive several consequences, among which are the asymptotic transitivity of the extension operator with respect to the tower of submanifolds, calculation of the asymptotic of the optimal constant in Ohsawa-Takegoshi extension theorem and higher derivative bounds on holomorphic extensions, recently asked by Demailly in his conjectural approach to the invariance of plurigenera for Kähler families.

+ Xianghong Gong Global Newlander-Nirenberg theorem for domains with C² boundary 09/11/2021 14:00
The Newlander-Nirenberg theorem says that a formally integrable complex structure is locally equivalent to the standard complex structure in the complex Euclidean space. As an application of estimates on homotopy formulas for the $\overline{\partial }$ operator, we consider two generalizations of the Newlander-Nirenberg theorem for domains with strictly pseudoconvex $C^{2}$ boundary. When a given formally integrable complex structure X is defined on the closure of a bounded strictly pseudoconvex domain D in $C^{n}$ with $C^{2}$ boundary, we show the existence of global holomorphic coordinate systems defined on the closure of D that transform X into the standard complex structure provided that X is sufficiently close to the standard complex structure. This extends a result of R. Hamilton for strictly pseudoconvex domains with smooth boundary. Using our result, we then prove the existence of local one-sided holomorphic coordinate systems provided that the boundary is strictly pseudoconvex with respect to the given complex structure. This is joint work with Chun Gan.

+ Oscar García-Prada Kähler–Yang–Mills equations and gravitating vortices 19/10/2021 14:00
We introduce a system of differential equations coupling a Hermitian metric on a holomorphic vector bundle over a compact complex manifold and a Kähler metric on the manifold. We then study invariant solutions under the action of the group of rotations on the product of the Riemann sphere and a compact Riemann surface. This leads to the gravitating vortex equations, whose existence of solutions, relating in particular to Mumford’s Geometric Invariant Theory, is discussed
+ Simion Philip Degenerations of Kahler forms on K3 surfaces, and some dynamics 30/06/2021 15:45
K3 surfaces have a rich geometry and admit interesting holomorphic automorphisms. As examples of Calabi-Yau manifolds, they admit Ricci-flat Kahler metrics, and a lot of attention has been devoted to how these metrics degenerate as the Kahler class approaches natural boundaries. I will discuss how to use the full automorphism group to analyze the degenerations and obtain certain canonical objects (closed positive currents) on the boundary. While most of the previous work was devoted to degenerating the metric along an elliptic fibration (motivated by the SYZ picture of mirror symmetry) I will discuss how to analyze all the other points. Time permitting, I will also describe the construction of canonical heights on K3 surfaces (in the sense of number theory), generalizing constructions due to Silverman and Tate. Joint work with Valentino Tosatti.
+ Michal Wrochna An index theorem on asymptotically static spacetimes with compact Cauchy surface 23/06/2021 15:45
A theorem due to Bär and Strohmaier (Amer. J. Math., 141 (5)) says that the Dirac operator on a Lorentzian manifold with compact Cauchy surface is Fredholm if Atiyah-Patodi-Singer boundary conditions are imposed at finite times. Furthermore, the index is given by a geometric formula that parallels as closely as possible the Atiyah-Patodi-Singer theorem in the Riemannian setting. In this talk I will report on joint work with Dawei Shen (Sorbonne Université) which extends this result to the infinite-time setting. Furthermore, we prove that in the infinite time situation, Fredholm inverses are Feynman parametrices in the sense of Duistermaat-Hörmander, a property which allows to show relationships with local aspects of the geometry.

In this talk, I will explain a construction of Chern character for coherent sheaves on a closed complex manifold with values in Bott-Chern cohomology. I will also show a corresponding Riemann-Roch-Grothendieck formula which holds for general holomorphic maps between closed non-Kahler manifolds. Our proof is based on two fundamental objects : the superconnection and the hypoelliptic deformations. This is a joint work with J.-M. Bismut and Z. Wei. ArXiv:2102.08129.
+ Lashi Bandara Boundary value problems for general first order elliptic differential operators 02/06/2021 15:45
The index theorem for compact manifolds with boundary, established by Atiyah-Patodi-Singer in 1975, is considered one of the most significant mathematical achievements of the 20th century. An important and curious fact is that local boundary conditions are topologically obstructed for index formulae and non-local boundary conditions lie at the heart of this theorem. Consequently, this has inspired the study of boundary value problems for first-order elliptic differential operators by many different schools, with a class of induced boundary operators taking centre stage in establishing non-local boundary conditions.

The work of Bär and Ballmann from 2012 is a modern and comprehensive framework that is useful to study elliptic boundary value problems for first-order elliptic operators on manifolds with compact and smooth boundary. As in the work of Atiyah-Patodi-Singer, a fundamental assumption in Bär-Ballmann is that the induced operator on the boundary can be chosen self-adjoint. All Dirac-type operators, which in particular includes the Hodge-Dirac operator as well as the Atiyah-Singer Dirac operator, are captured via this framework.

In contrast to the APS index theorem, which is essentially restricted to Dirac-type operators, the earlier index theorem of Atiyah-Singer from 1968 on closed manifolds is valid for general first-order elliptic differential operators. There are important operators from both geometry and physics which are more general than those captured by the state-of-the-art for BVPs and index theory. A quintessential example is the Rarita-Schwinger operator on 3/2-spinors, which arises in physics for the study of the so-called delta baryons. A fundamental and seemingly fatal obstacle to study BVPs for such operators is that the induced operator on the boundary may no longer be chosen self-adjoint, even if the operator on the interior is symmetric.

In recent work with Bär, we extend the Bär-Ballmann framework to consider general first-order elliptic differential operators by dispensing with the self-adjointness requirement for induced boundary operators. Modulo a zero order additive term, we show every induced boundary operator is a bi-sectorial operator via the ellipticity of the interior operator. An essential tool at this level of generality is the bounded holomorphic functional calculus, coupled with pseudo-differential operator theory, semi-group theory as well as methods arising from the resolution of the Kato square root problem. This perspective also paves way for studying noncompact boundary, Lipschitz boundary, as well as boundary value problems in the Lp setting.
+ Gérard FREIXAS Non-abelian Hodge theory and complex Chern-Simons 19/05/2021 15:45
In this talk I will propose a construction of complex Chern-Simons line bundles on moduli spaces of flat vector bundles on families of Riemann surfaces. The approach is based on Deligne’s functorial approach to characteristic classes in Arakelov geometry where we replace hermitian metrics by relative flat connections and Bott-Chern secondary classes by Chern-Simons counterparts. Our construction requires an intermediate result on extensions of relative flat connections to global ones, which can be seen as a geometric avatar of Spinaci’s study of variations of twisted harmonic maps in non-abelian Hodge theory. I will discuss some applications to moduli spaces of curves, projective structures and Deligne pairings of line bundles. This is ongoing work with D. Eriksson (Chalmers University of Technology) and R. Wentworth (University of Maryland)
+ Antoine Song Essential minimal volume and minimizing metrics 12/05/2021 15:45
One way to measure the complexity of a smooth manifold is to consider its minimal volume, denoted by MinVol, introduced by Gromov, which is simply defined as the infinimum of the volume among metrics with sectional curvature between -1 and 1. I will introduce a close variant of MinVol, called the essential minimal volume, which has most of the “good” properties of MinVol and has also some additional advantages: it is always achieved by some Riemannian metrics which in some sense generalize hyperbolic metrics, moreover it can be estimated for Einstein 4-manifolds and most complex surfaces in terms of topology.
+ Duong Phong Geometric Partial Differential Equations from Unified String Theories 05/05/2021 15:45
The laws of nature at its fundamental level have long been a source of inspiration for geometry and partial differential equations. With unified string theories and particularly supersymmetry, a particularly important new requirement has emerged, which is that of special holonomy. The earliest manifestation was identified by Candelas, Horowitz, Strominger, and Witten in 1985 as the Calabi-Yau condition, but more general spaces have emerged since, that can be interpreted as generalizations of the Calabi-Yau condition to both non-Kähler complex geometry and symplectic geometry. The corresponding equations are interesting in their own right from the point of view of the theory of non-linear partial differential equations. We shall survey some of these developments, with emphasis on the analytic open problems
+ Siarhei Finski On characteristic forms of positive vector bundles, local Kempf-Laksov formula and mixed discriminants 14/04/2021 15:45
By a theorem of Kodaira, for a line bundle over a compact complex manifold, the positivity of the first Chern class is equivalent to its ampleness. For vector bundles of higher rank, there are several widely used notions of positivity, and the precise relation between them and ampleness is still only conjectural. In this talk we will discuss the relation between positivity of a vector bundle and the positivity of the associated characteristic forms. In particular, we will establish a differential-geometric version Fulton-Lazarfeld theorem on the description of the positive characteristic classes for ample vector bundles. As an interesting byproduct of the proof we will establish a local refinement of the Kempf-Laksov determinantal formula.
+ Tony Yue Yu Frobenius structure conjecture and application to cluster algebras 07/04/2021 15:45
I will explain the Frobenius structure conjecture of Gross-Hacking-Keel in mirror symmetry, and an application towards cluster algebras. Let U be an affne log Calabi-Yau variety containing an open algebraic torus. We show that the naive counts of rational curves in U uniquely determine a commutative associative algebra equipped with a compatible multilinear form. Although the statement of the theorem involves only elementary algebraic geometry, the proof employs Berkovich non-archimedean analytic methods. We construct the structure constants of the algebra via counting non-archimedean analytic disks in the analytifcation of U. I will explain various properties of the counting, notably deformation invariance, symmetry, gluing formula and convexity. In the special case when U is a Fock-Goncharov skew-symmetric X-cluster variety, our algebra generalizes, and gives a direct geometric construction of, the mirror algebra of Gross-Hacking-Keel-Kontsevich. The comparison is proved via a canonical scattering diagram defined by counting infinitesimal non-archimedean analytic cylinders, without using the Kontsevich-Soibelman algorithm. + George Marinescu On the singularities of the Bergman projections for lower energy forms on complex manifolds with boundary 31/03/2021 15:45
We determine the boundary behavior of the spectral kernel of the ∂-Neumann Laplacian of a domain with smooth boundary near points where the Levi form is non-degenerate. As a consequence we show that the Bergman projection admits an asymptotic expansion under a certain closed range condition for ∂ in L2. This is a joint work with Chin-Yu Hsiao.

Then I will explain my joint works with Li and Zhu on long-time behavior of the flow and discuss briefly a recent result work by Li’s on construction of singular limits.
+ Jean-Pierre Demailly Bergman bundles and applications to analytic geometry 10/03/2021 15:45
We introduce the concept of Bergman bundle attached to a hermitian manifold X, assuming the manifold X to be compact, although the results are local for a large part. The Bergman bundle is some sort of infinite dimensional very ample Hilbert bundle whose bers are isomorphic to the standard L2 Hardy space on the complex unit ball; however the bundle is locally trivial only in the real analytic category, and its complex structure is strongly twisted. We compute the Chern curvature of the Bergman bundle, and show that it is strictly positive. Several potential applications to open problems in analytic geometry will be discussed.
+ Richard Bamler Compactness and partial regularity theory of Ricci ows in higher dimensions 03/03/2021 15:45
We present a new compactness theory of Ricci flows. This theory states that any sequence of Ricci flows that is pointed in an appropriate sense, subsequentially converges to a synthetic flow. Under a natural non-collapsing condition, this limiting flow is smooth on the complement of a singular set of parabolic codimension at least 4.We furthermore obtain a stratification of the singular set with optimal dimensional bounds depending on the symmetries of the tangent flows. Our methods also imply the correspondingquantitative stratifiation result and the expected L^p-curvature bounds. As an application we obtain a description of the singularity formation at the first singular time and a long-time characterization of immortal flows, which generalizes the thick-thin decomposition in dimension 3.We also obtain a backwards pseudolocality theorem and discuss several other applications.

+ Thibault Lefeuvre The holonomy inverse problem on Anosov manifolds 10/02/2021 15:45
On a negatively-curved Riemannian manifold (and more generally on an Anosov manifold i.e. a Riemannian manifold whose geodesic flow is uniformly hyperbolic), the celebrated Burns-Katok conjecture asserts that the marked length spectrum, namely the length of all closed geodesics marked by the free homotopy of the manifold, should determine the metric (up to isometries). In a similar fashion, on an Anosov manifold, given a vector bundle equipped with a (unitary) connection, one can wonder if the data of the holonomy of the connection along closed geodesics (up to conjugacy) determines the connection (up to gauge-equivalence). This is called the holonomy inverse problem and turns out to be a very rich question, as it brings together different fields of mathematics: microlocal analysis, hyperbolic dynamical systems, theory of Pollicott-Ruelle resonances & Kähler geometry. I will review some recent progress that have been achieved on this question. Joint work with Mihajlo Cekić.

I will discuss the problem of understanding the collapsing behavior of Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on a Calabi-Yau manifold that admits a holomorphic fibration structure, when the Kahler class degenerates to the pullback of a Kahler class from the base. I will present new work with Hans-Joachim Hein where we obtain a priori estimates of all orders for the Ricci-flat metrics away from the singular fibers, as a corollary of a complete asymptotic expansion.

An overdamped « rubber band » constrained to remain on a manifold evolves by trying to shorten its length, eventually settling on a closed geodesic, or collapsing entirely. It is natural to try to consider a noisy version of such a model where each infinitesimal segment of the band gets pulled in independent random directions. Trying to build such a model turns out to be surprisingly difficult and generates a number of beautiful algebraic and analytical objects. We will survey some of the main results obtained on the way to this construction

+ Xianzhe Dai Witten deformation on non-compact Manifolds 13/01/2021 15:45
Witten deformation is a deformation of the de Rham complex introduced in an extremely influential paper by Witten. Witten deformation on closed manifolds has found many beautiful applications, among them the work of Bismut-Zhang on the Cheeger-M\"uller Theorem/Ray-Singer Conjecture. Development in mirror symmetry, in particular the Calabi-Yau/Landau-Ginzburg correspondence has highlighted the importance of mathematical study of Landau-Ginzburg models. This leads to a whole range of questions on the Witten deformation on non-compact manifolds. In this talk we will discuss our recent work, joint with Junrong Yan, on the L²-cohomology, the heat asymptotic expansion, the local index theorem, and the Ray-Singer analytic torsion in this setting.

Bershadsky, Cecotti, Ooguri and Vafa constructed a real valued invariant for Calabi-Yau manifolds, which is now called the BCOV invariant. The BCOV invariant is conjecturally related to the Gromov-Witten theory via mirror symmetry. In this talk, we prove the conjecture that birational Calabi-Yau manifolds have the same BCOV invariant. We also build an analogue between the BCOV invariant and the motivic integration. The result presented in this talk is a joint work with Lie Fu.

Fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE) is a striking experiment, where quantisation phenomena are observed in a lab in a macroscopic system. FQHE is described by Laughlin’s wave functions of N electrons, which physicists prefer to consider on a compact Riemann surface to study analytically. We define these wave functions mathematically and settle the Wen-Niu (1990) conjecture about their topological degeneracy. Work in progress with Dimitri Zvonkine. Time permitting, I will talk about attempts to define these states in complex dimension two (work in progress w/ Mike Douglas and Jie Wang).

Consider a sequence of smooth compact Riemann surfaces of genus g whose corresponding points in the moduli space Mg converge to a point in the Deligne–Mumford compactification. We consider the following question: what is the limit of the associated sequence of Arakelov-Bergman measures? Combining graph theory, tropical non-archimedean geometry and Hodge theory, we obtain a full answer and a new compactification of the moduli spaces of curves. + Alix Deruelle Steady gradient Kähler-Ricci solitons 24/11/2020 15:45
This is joint work with Ronan Conlon (UT Dallas). Steady gradient Kähler-Ricci solitons are fixed points of the Kähler-Ricci flow which only evolve under the action of biholomorphisms generated by a real holomorphic vector field. The formation of such singularities along the Ricci flow is known to be rather slow and this makes them hard to detect. We show that there is a unique steady gradient Kähler-Ricci soliton in each Kähler class of an equivariant crepant resolution of a Calabi-Yau cone. To do so, we solve a weighted complex Monge-Ampère equation via a continuity method. Our construction is based on an ansatz due to Cao in the 90's which has been revived by Biquard-MacBeth in 2017.
+ Pierrick Bousseau Positivity for the skein algebra of the 4-punctured sphere. 17/11/2020 15:45
The skein algebra of a topological surface is constructed from knots and links in the 3-manifold obtained by taking the product of the surface with an interval. A conjecture of Dylan Thurston predicts the positivity of the structure constants of a certain linear basis of the skein algebra. I will explain a recent proof of this conjecture for the skein algebra of the 4-punctured sphere. In a slightly surprising way, this proof of a topological result relies on complex algebraic geometry and in particular the study of algebraic curves in complex cubic surfaces.

+ Oscar Garcia-Prada Higgs bundles and higher Teichmüller spaces 08/09/2020 14:00
It is well-known that the Teichmüller space of a compact surface can be identified with a connected component of the moduli space of representations of the fundamental group of the surface in PSL(2,R). Higher Teichmüller spaces are generalizations of this that exist in the moduli space of representations of the fundamental group into certain real simple non-compact Lie groups of higher rank. As for the usual Teichmüller space, these spaces consist entirely of discrete and faithful representations. Several cases have been identified over the years. First, the Hitchin components for split groups, then the maximal Toledo invariant components for Hermitian groups, and more recently certain components for SO(p,q). In this talk, I will describe a general construction (still somewhat conjectural) of all possible Teichmüller spaces, and a parametrization of them using Higgs bundles.

The pseudo-hyperbolic space H^{2,n} is in many ways a generalisation of the hyperbolic space. It is a pseudo-Riemannian manifold with signature

(2,n) with constant curvature, it also has a « boundary at infinity ».

We explain in this joint work with  Jérémy Toulisse and Mike Wolf how special curves in this boundary at infinity, bounds unique maximal surfaces in H^{2,n}. The result bears some analogy with the Cheng-Yau existence results for affine spheres tangent to convex curves in the projective plane. The talk will spend sometime explainig the geometry of the pseudo-hyperbolic space and its boundary at infinity, as well as description of maximal surfaces. If time permits, I will explain some extension to « quasi-periodic » maximal surfaces in H^{2,n}.

In this talk I will explain how to construct and classify all complete Calabi-Yau manifolds that are polynomially asymptotic to some given Calabi-Yau cone (with a smooth cross-section)at infinity. If the Reeb vector field of the cone generates a circle action, this result goes back to joint work with Ronan Conlon in 2014. In more recent joint work we were able to remove the assumption about the Reeb vector field. This now allows us to give a complete analysis of the most interesting class of examples - smoothings of cones over irregular Sasaki-Einstein manifolds - where only one sporadic example was known previously.

Moduli spaces of Higgs bundles are mathematical objects which are of interest from various points of view: as holomorphic objects, generalizing the concept of holomorphic structures on vector bundles, as topological objects, relating to surface group representations, and as analytic objects which admit a description through a nonlinear PDE. In my talk, I will mostly take up this latter point of view and give an introduction to Higgs bundles on Riemann surfaces both in the smooth and the parabolic setting. In the parabolic case, i.e. in the situation where the Higgs bundles are permitted to have poles in a discrete set of points, I will discuss recent joint work with L. Fredrickson, R. Mazzeo and H. Weiß concerning the asymptotic geometric structure of their moduli spaces. Here the focus lies on the hyperkähler metric these spaces are naturally equipped with. One implication of a recent conjectural picture due to Gaiotto-Moore-Neitzke suggests that this metric is asymptotic to a so-called semiflat model metric which comes from the description of the moduli space as a completely integrable system. We shall also discuss several open questions in the case where the Riemann surface is a four-punctured sphere and these moduli spaces turn out to be gravitational instantons of type ALG.

Joyce’s orbifold construction and the twisted connected sums by Kovalev and Corti-Haskins-Nordström-Pacini provide many examples of compact Riemannian 7-manifolds with holonomy G₂ (i.e., G₂-manifolds). We would like to use this wealth of examples to guess further properties of G₂-manifolds and to find obstructions against holonomy G₂, taking into account the underlying topological G₂-structures. The Crowley-Nordström ν-invariant distinguishes topological G₂-structures. It vanishes for all twisted connected sums. By adding an extra twist to this construction, we show that the ν-invariant can assume all of its 48 possible values. This shows that G₂-bordism presents no obstruction against holonomy G₂. We also exhibit examples of 7-manifolds with disconnected G₂-moduli space. Our computation of the ν-invariants involves integration of the Bismut-Cheeger η-forms for families of tori, which can be done either by elementary hyperbolic geometry, or using modular properties of the Dedekind η-function.

+ Antonio Trusiani Séance annulée - Continuity of the Monge- Ampère operator and Kähler-Einsten metrics with prescribed singularities 31/03/2020 14:00

On (X, ω) compact Kähler manifold, I will show that the Monge-Ampère operator is an homeomorphism between a set XA of certain ω-plurisubharmonic functions whose singularities are encoded in a total ordered family A ⊂ PSH(X, ω) representing some singularity types and a set YA of measures. The elements of these sets are characterized by having relative finite energy, so they have natural strong topologies which make the energies continuous. Then I will expose how to deal with complex Monge-Ampère equations with prescribed singularities through a continuity method which also involves the singularities types. As application and main motivation, I will also present how in the Fano case the existence of Kähler-Einstein metrics with prescribed singularities is related to the existence of the genuine Kähler-Einstein metrics.

+ Bruno PREMOSELLI Examples of Compact Einstein fourmanifolds with negative curvature 25/02/2020 14:00

We construct new examples of closed, negatively curved, not locally homogeneous Einstein four-manifolds. Topologically, the manifolds we consider are quotients, by the action of a dihedral group, of symmetric closed hyperbolic four-manifolds. We produce an Einstein metric on such manifolds via a glueing procedure. We first find an approximate Einstein metric that we obtain as the interpolation, at large distances, between a Riemannian Kottler metric and the hyperbolic metric. We then deform it, in the Bianchi gauge, into a genuine solution of Einstein’s equations. The construction described in this talk is a joint work with J. Fine (ULB) and is inspired from our recent construction of Einstein metrics on ramified covers of closed hyperbolic manifolds with symmetries.

+ Marco Mazzucchelli Asymptotically Euclidean metrics without conjugate points are flat 11/02/2020 14:00

In a Riemannian manifold, two points along a geodesic are conjugate when there exists a non-trivial Jacobi field vanishing at those  two points; equivalently, the geodesic ceases to be a locally length-minimizing path past the second point in the conjugate pair. A celebrated theorem of Burago-Ivanov, first established in dimension two by Hopf, asserts that any Riemannian n-torus without conjugate points must be flat. Inspired by this theorem, I will sketch the proof of an analogous result for the Euclidean space: on the n-dimensional Euclidean space, any Riemannian metric that is asymptotic to an order larger than 2 at infinity to the Euclidean metric and has no conjugate points must be isometric to the Euclidean metric.

+ Ylin Wang On the Loewner energy of simple planar curves 14/01/2020 14:00

We introduce the Loewner energy for simple planar curves and relate this quantity to ideas and concepts coming from random conformal geometry, geometric function theory, and Teichmuller theory. Many of those concepts arise from areas of mathematical physics. One motivation for the definition of the Loewner energy is that it describes the large deviations of a family of simple random curves called Schramm-Loewner evolutions (SLE) of vanishing parameter. This provides a probabilistic interpretation of the Loewner energy that allows us to establish several interesting geometric properties. We further derive an equivalent characterization of the Loewner energy of Jordan curves using zeta-regularized determinants of Laplacians. This then identifies the Loewner energy with the Kahler potential, introduced by Takhtajan and Teo, of the unique Kahler metric on the Weil-Petersson Teichmuller space.

We use this structure to completely solve the theory by providing a closed formula for the local real GW invariants in terms of representation theoretic data. As a corollary we obtain the local version of the real Gopakumar-Vafa formula. en 2015 par Campana-Paun.

+ Oscar Garcia-Prada Arakelov-Milnor inequalities and maximal variations of Hodge structure 25/06/2019 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
We consider the moduli space of G-Higgs bundles over a compact Riemann surface X, where G is a real semisimple Lie group. By the non-abelian Hodge correspondence this is homeomorphic to the moduli space of representations of the fundamental group of X in G. We are interested in the fixed point subvarieties under the action of C*, obtained by rescaling the Higgs field. The fixed points correspond to variations of Hodge structure and are critical points of the Hitchin functional — a Morse function defined on the moduli space of Higgs bundles. We show that one can define in this context an invariant that generalizes the Toledo invariant in the case where G is of Hermitian type. Moreover, there are bounds on this invariant similar to the Milnor–Wood inequalities of the Hermitian case. These bounds also generalize the Arakelov inequalities of classical Hodge bundles arising from families of varieties over a compact Riemann surface. We explore the case where this invariant is maximal, and show that there is a rigidity phenomenon, relating to Fuchsian representations, and which in particular allows the identification of higher Teichmueller components.
+ Yan Soibelman Algebraicity in wall-crossing formulas and tropical geometry 18/06/2019 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
Wall-crossing formulas proposed in a joint paper with Maxim Kontsevich (arXiv:0811.2435) for the purposes of Donaldson-Thomas theory can be explained in terms of the notion of stability data on graded Lie algebras introduced in the loc.cit. By interpreting wall-crossing formulas as gluing of a non-archimedean analytic space from standard tube domains one can approach the question of algebraicity of series which appears in the story. I plan to discuss this circle of ideas and its relationship to tropical geometry
+ Sergey Cherkis Monopole Moduli Space Compactification and Exploding Manifolds 04/06/2019 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
Doubly periodic monopoles or monowalls for short are related to a number of interesting problems. Their moduli spaces are
hyperkähler manifolds of ALH type, they are isometric to the moduli spaces of Calabi-Yau manifolds and to spaces of vacua of five-dimensional quantum field theories compactified on a torus. We report our results with Rebekah Cross extracting the asymptotic metric from the monowall dynamics and relating it to the volumes cut out by plane arrangements in Euclidean three-space. As we found with Richard Ward, monowall charges are encoded in a Newton polygon N, and their moduli space phase structure is encoded in its secondary fan F(N). This view leads to a natural compactification of the monowall moduli space as an exploded manifold.

+ Michael Singer Boundary value problems for Einstein metrics 21/05/2019 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
Let M be a compact oriented d-dimensional manifold with boundary N. A natural geometric boundary value problem is to find an asymptotically hyperbolic Einstein metric g on (the interior of) M with prescribed ’conformal infinity’ on N. A little more precisely, the problem is to find (Einstein) g with the boundary condition that x?g tends to a metric h on N as x goes to 0, x being a boundary defining function for N. The prototype is the hyperbolic metric g on the ball, with conformal infinity the round metric on the boundary sphere. Since the pioneering work of Graham and Lee (1991) the problem has attracted attention from a number of authors.
In this talk, I shall explain a gauge-theoretic approach to the problem which works in dimension d=4, and explain how it can be used to obtain some new results for this boundary value problem.
+ Dan Coman Equidistribution and universality results for sequences of holomorphic line bundles 14/05/2019 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
We study the asymptotic distribution of the Fubini-Study currents associated to a sequence of singular Hermitian holomorphic line bundles on a compact normal Kähler complex space. This is a generalization of our earlier results, by allowing the base space to be singular, and by considering sequences of line bundles instead of the sequence of powers of a fixed line bundle. We also prove a universality result in the above setting, which shows that, under mild moment assumptions, the symptotic distribution of zeros of random holomorphic sections is independent of the choice of probability measure on the space of holomorphic sections. We give several applications of this result, in particular to the distribution of zeros of random polynomials.

+ Gabriele Mondello On moduli spaces of spherical surfaces with conical points 02/04/2019 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
Metrics of positive curvature with conical singularities on surfaces behave quite differently than flat or hyperbolic ones. In particular, existence and uniqueness of spherical (i.e. K=1) metrics in a given conformal class is not granted. The aim of the talk is to address a number of features of the moduli spaces of spherical metrics on compact oriented surfaces with conical singularities of prescribed angles. Among the global properties, we discuss non-emptiness and we show that such moduli spaces can have an arbitrarily large number of connected components. Furthermore, we show that no spherical metric in a given conformal class exists if one angle is too small. Such result relies on an explicit systole inequality which relates metric invariants (systole) and conformal invariants (extremal systole) of spherical surfaces, and that can be of independent interest.

+ EXPOSE ANNULE - Hans-Joachim Hein EXPOSE ANNULE - Classification of asymptotically conical Calabi-Yau manifolds 19/03/2019 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
In this talk I will explain how to construct and classify all possible complete Calabi-Yau manifolds that are polynomially asymptotic to a given Calabi-Yau cone (with a smooth link) at infinity. If the Reeb vector field of the cone generates a circle action, this result goes back to a joint work with Ronan Conlon in 2014. In more recent joint work we were able to remove the assumption about the Reeb vector field.

I will discuss smooth complex hypersurfaces in direct products of Riemann surfaces and present a classification in terms of their fundamental groups. This answers a question of Delzant and Gromov on sub-varieties of direct products of Riemann surfaces for the smooth codimension one case. I will then proceed to explaining how the techniques developed in the proof can be applied to answer the three factor case of Delzant and Gromov’s question which subgroups of a direct product of surface groups are Kähler groups.

+ Jacopo Stoppa Scalar curvature and an infinite dimensional hyperkähler reduction 19/02/2019 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
Donaldson and Fujiki gave an interpretation of the constant scalar Kähler geometry (cscK equation) as an infinite-dimensional Kähler reduction. Donaldson and his student T. Hodge considered the problem of extending this naturally to a hyperkähler reduction and studied the resulting real and complex moment map equations in the special case of complex curves. I will discuss recent joint work with C. Scarpa (SISSA) in which we developed a different approach to this problem, based on general results of Biquard and Gauduchon. In particular we were able to write down the equations explicitly on complex surfaces and to solve them on some ruled surfaces for which the original cscK equation does not have solutions.

+ Vincent Vargas Path integral for quantum Mabuchi K-energy 08/01/2019 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
I will present the probabilistic construction of a path integral based on the coupling of the Liouville action and the Mabuchi K-energy on a one-dimensional complex manifold. Both functionals play an important role respectively in Riemannian geometry (in the case of surfaces) and Kähler geometry. Motivations come from theoretical physics where these type of path integrals arise as a model for fluctuating metrics on surfaces when coupling (small) massive perturbations of conformal field theories to quantum gravity as advocated by A. Bilal, F. Ferrari, S. Klevtsov and S. Zelditch. Interestingly, our computations show that quantum corrections perturb the classical Mabuchi K-energy and produce a quantum Mabuchi K-energy: these type of corrections are reminiscent of the quantum Liouville theory

+ Lorenzo Foscolo ALC manifolds with exceptional holonomy 20/11/2018 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
I will describe the construction of infinitely many complete non-compact G2-manifolds from small resolutions of Calabi-Yau cones and forthcoming work on the construction of infinitely many complete non-compact Spin(7)-manifolds from self-dual Einstein 4-orbifolds. Prior to these constructions there was only a handful of known examples of complete non-compact manifolds with G2 and Spin(7) holonomy. All the examples we produce have an asymptotic geometry (so-called ALC geometry) that generalises to 7 and 8 dimensions the geometry of 4-dimensional ALF hyperkähler metrics. The examples are produced by the study of the adiabatic limit of metrics with exceptional holonomy on principal circle bundles/Seifert fibrations over asymptotically conical manifolds/orbifolds.
+ Irene Pasquinelli Deligne-Mostow lattices and cone metrics on the sphere 13/11/2018 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
Finding lattices in PU(n,1) has been one of the major challenges of the last decades. One way of constructing a lattice is to give a fundamental domain for its action on the complex hyperbolic space.
One approach, successful for some lattices, consists of seeing the complex hyperbolic space as the configuration space of cone metrics on the sphere and of studying the action of some maps exchanging the cone points with same cone angle.
In this talk we will see how this construction can be used to build fundamental polyhedra for all Deligne-Mostow lattices in PU(2,1).

+ Claude LeBrun Quasi-Fuchsian Groups, and Almost-Kähler Geometry 25/09/2018 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
If M is compact and 4-dimensional, one can then show that the conformal classes of almost-Kähler metrics sweep out an open
subset in the space of the conformal classes. This provides a natural tool for exploring difficult global problems in 4-dimensional conformal geometry. However, this technique certainly has its limitations. For example, if a 4-manifold admits scalar-flat Kähler metrics, these can be deformed into anti-self-dual almost-Kähler metrics, and these then sweep out an open set in the moduli space of anti-self-dual conformal structures. One might somehow hope that this subset would also turn out to be closed, and so sweep out entire connected components in the moduli space. Alas, however, this simply isn’t true! In this talk, I’ll explain recent joint work with Chris Bishop that constructs a large hierarchy of counter-examples by studying the limit sets of quasi-Fuchsian groups.
+ Lars Sektnan Poincaré type extremal metrics and stability of pairs on Hirzebruch surfaces 05/06/2018 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
In this talk I will discuss the existence of complete extremal metrics on the complement of simple normal crossings divisors in compact Kähler manifolds, and stability of pairs, in the toric case. Using constructions of Legendre and Apostolov-Calderbank-Gauduchon, we completely characterize when this holds for Hirzebruch surfaces. In particular, our results show that relative stability of a pair and the existence of extremal Poincaré type/cusp metrics do not coincide. However, stability is equivalent to the existence of a complete extremal metric on the complement of the divisor in our examples. It is the Poincaré type condition on the asymptotics of the extremal metric that fails in general. This is joint work with Vestislav Apostolov and Hugues Auvray.

I will discuss a joint work with Lärkäng, Raufi, and Sera, where we define Chern forms for any $k$ in the case when ℎ has analytic singularities. Our construction uses a generalized Monge-Ampère operator for plurisubharmonic functions with analytic singularities, recently introduced by Andersson and me. Moreover our Chern forms coincide with the Lärkäng-Raufi-Ruppenthal-Sera $c_k(E,h)$ when these are defined

+ Valentino Tosatti Smooth collapsing of Ricci-flat metrics 20/03/2018 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
Consider a compact Calabi-Yau manifold with a holomorphic fibration onto a lower-dimensional space, and consider a family of Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on the total space whose Kahler class is degenerating to the pullback of a class from the base. In earlier work I proved that the metric collapse, away from the singular fibers, to a limiting metric on the base, in the locally uniform topology (and smoothly if the fibers are tori). I will describe new estimates that prove a uniform Holder bound in general, and bounds for all derivatives when the smooth fibers are isomorphic to each other.

+ Philipp Naumann An approach to Griffiths' conjecture 06/03/2018 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
The Griffiths’ conjecture asserts that every ample vector bundle over a compact complex manifold admits a hermitian metric with positive curvature in the sense of Griffiths. Apart from the case of curves and of course line bundles, this conjecture is completely open. In the talk we give an approach to this problem by using curvature formulas for direct images and the relative Kähler-Ricci flow.
+ Peng Zhou Interface behavior of Partial Bergman Kernel 20/02/2018 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
Partial Bergman kernels are kernels of orthogonal projections onto subspaces of holomorphic sections of the 𝑘-th power of an ample line bundle L over a Kahler manifold M. The subspaces of this talk are spectral subspaces \H𝑘 < E\ of the Toeplitz quantization H𝑘 of a smooth Hamiltonian H ∶ M → R. It is shown that the relative partial density of states converges to the characteristic function of the domain A, where A=\H < E\. Moreover it is shown that this partial density of states exhibits ‘Erf’-asymptotics along the boundary of A, that is, the density profile asymptotically has a Gaussian error function shape interpolating between one and zero. Such ‘erf’-asymptotics are a universal edge effect. This is based on joint work with Steve Zelditch
+ Anda Degeratu The Calabi Conjecture on QAC spaces 30/01/2018 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
In this talk we introduce the class of quasi-asymptotically conical (QAC) geometries, a less rigid Riemannian formulation of the QALE geometries introduced by Joyce in his study of crepant resolutions of Calabi-Yau orbifolds. Our set-up is in the category of real stratified spaces and Riemannian geometry. Given a QAC manifold, we identify the appropriate weighted Sobolev spaces, for which we prove the finite dimensionality of the null space for generalized Laplacians as well as their Fredholmness. We conclude with new examples of Ricci-flat Kähler metrics which have these type of asymptotic geometries. This talk is based on joint work with Rafe Mazzeo and with Ronan Conlon and Frederic Rochon.

+ Ya Deng On the ampleness of the logarithmic jet bundle 28/11/2017 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
A complex (not necessarily compact) manifold X is said (Brody) hyperbolic if there exists no non-constant entire curves 𝑓 ∶ ℂ → X. In the 70s, Kobayashi conjectured that a general hypersurface X of high degree in the projective space ℙ𝑛 is hyperbolic. Moreover, he further conjectured that the complement ℙ𝑛\X should also be hyperbolic. The first conjecture was proved by Yum-Tong Siu and Damian Brotbek independently. In this talk, I will present a recent result on the ampleness of the logarithmic jet bundle of the pair (ℙ𝑛, X); in particular, this gives a proof of the second conjecture by Kobayashi. The techniques are based on the construction of logarithmic jet differentials, which are the obstructions of the entire curves. The talk is based on joint projects with Brotbek.

+ Joel Fine Compact Einstein manifolds with negative curvature 07/11/2017 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
I will describe joint work with Bruno Premoselli, in which we construct new examples of Einstein metrics on compact manifolds. They are seemingly the first compact examples of negatively curved Einstein metrics which are not just locally homogeneous. The metrics are found on a family of 4-manioflds constructed by Gromov and Thurston in the 1980s. The starting point is a certain sequence $M_k$ of hyperbolic 4-manifolds, each containing a totally geodesic surface $S_k$ which is nulhomologous. Moreover, the normal injectivity radius of $S_k$ goes to infinity with k. For a fixed choice of l, we take the l-fold cover $X_k$ over $M_k$ branched along $S_k$. We prove that for all large k, $X_k$ carries an Einstein metric. The proof is in two parts. Firstly we find a metric on $X_k$ which is close to Einstein. This is done by using a model Einstein metric near the branch locus. Our model is asymptotically hyperbolic and so matches at large distances from the branch locus with the pull-back to $X_k$ of the hyperbolic metric on $M_k$. Interpolating between these gives a metric which is close to solving Einstein’s equations. The second part of the proof is to perturb this metric (for all large k) to find a genuine Einstein metric using the inverse function theorem. This involves a delicate interplay between L² coercivity estimates and weighted Hölder estimates.

+ Anton Zorich Equidistribution of square-tiled surfaces, meanders, and Masur-Veech volumes 26/09/2017 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
We show how recent equidistribution results allow to compute approximate values of Masur-Veech volumes of the strata in the moduli spaces of Abelian and quadratic differentials by Monte Carlo method. We also show how similar approach allows to count asymptotical number of meanders of fixed combinatorial type in various settings in all genera. Our formulae are particularly efficient for classical meanders in genus zero. We present a bridge between flat and hyperbolic worlds giving a formula for the Masur-Veech volume of the moduli space of quadratic differentials in the spirit of Mirzakhani-Weil-Peterson volume of the moduli space of curves. Finally we present several conjectures around large genus asymptotics of Masur-Veech volumes.

We will discuss our construction of compact Hausdorff Moishezon moduli spaces parametrizing smoothable K-stable Fano varieties. The solution relies on the recent solution of the Yau-Tian-Donaldson conjecture by Chen-Donaldson-Sun and Tian. In particular, we prove the uniqueness of the degeneration of Fano Kähler-Einstein manifolds and more algebraic properties that are needed to construct a good algebraic moduli space.
+ Ruadhai Dervan The Kähler-Ricci flow and optimal degenerations 23/05/2017 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02,
It was recently shown by Chen-Sun-Wang that the Kähler-Ricci flow on a Fano manifold gives rise to a certain algebraic degeneration of the manifold. They conjectured that this degeneration should be ”most destabilising”. We introduce a new stability notion, with respect to which the Chen-Sun-Wang degeneration is most destabilising. As an application, we prove a general convergence result for the Kähler-Ricci flow on Fano manifolds admitting a Kähler-Ricci soliton, generalising work of Tian-Zhu and Tian-Zhang-Zhu. This is joint work with Gabor Székelyhidi.

+ Greg Kuperberg The Cartan-Hadamard Problem and the Little Prince 14/03/2017 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02,
Among n-dimensional regions with fixed volume, which one has the least boundary? This question is known as an isoperimetric problem; its nature depends on what is meant by a ”region”. I will discuss variations of an isoperimetric problem known as the generalized Cartan-Hadamard conjecture: If Ω is a region in a complete, simply connected n-manifold with curvature bounded above by k≤ 0, then does it have the least boundary when the curvature equals k and Ω is round? It was originally inspired by the problem of finding the optimal shape of a planet to maximize gravity at a single point, such as the place where the Little Prince stands on his own small planet.
+ Dennis Eriksson Singularities of metrics on Hodge bundles and their topological invariants 07/03/2017 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
For a family of compact complex manifolds, the direct image of the canonical bundle (or Hodge bundle) admits a natural metric. Approaching singular fibers this metric degenerates, and we provide explicit expressions for the dominant terms in the Calabi-Yau case. These are described in terms of topological invariants coming from vanishing cycles or limit Hodge structures. If time permits I will discuss applications to BCOV-torsion which first arose in mirror symmetry.

+ Wenshuai Jiang L² curvature bounds on manifolds with bounded Ricci curvature 07/02/2017 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02
In this talk, we consider Riemannian manifolds with bounded Ricci curvature and noncollapsed volume. The main result is that the L² curvature is bounded. This proves the L² curvature conjecture of Cheeger-Naber. The proof involves several new estimates. I will explain the key ideas of the proof and the new estimates.

+ Felix Schulze Ricci flow from spaces with isolated conical singularities 18/10/2016 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02,
Let (M,g₀) be a compact n-dimensional Riemannian manifold with a finite number of singular points, where at each singular point the metric is asymptotic to a cone over a compact (n- 1)-dimensional manifold with curvature operator greater or equal to one. We show that there exists a smooth Ricci flow starting from such a metric with curvature decaying like C/t. The initial metric is attained in Gromov-Hausdorff distance and smoothly away from the singular points. To construct this solution, we desingularize the initial metric by glueing in expanding solitons with positive curvature operator, each asymptotic to the cone at the singular point, at a small scale s. Localizing a recent stability result of Deruelle-Lamm for such expanding solutions, we show that there exists a solution from the desingularized initial metric for a uniform time T>0, independent of the glueing scale s. The solution is then obtained by letting s->0. We also show that the so obtained limiting solution has the corresponding expanding soliton as a forward tangent flow at each initial singular point. This is joint work with P. Gianniotis.
+ Spyros Alexakis Recovering a Riemannian metric from area data 31/05/2016 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02,
We consider the following geometric inverse problem: Consider a simply connected Riemannian 3-manifold (M,𝑔) with boundary. Assume that given any closed loop γ on the boundary, one knows the areas of the corresponding minimal surfaces with boundary γ. Then from this information can one reconstruct the metric 𝑔? We answer this in the affirmative in many cases. We will briefly discuss the relation of this problem with the question of reconstructing a metric from lengths of geodesics, and also with the Calderon problem of reconstructing a metric from the Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator for the corresponding Laplace-Beltrami operator. Joint with T. Balehowsky and A. Nachman.
+ Songyan Xie On the ampleness of the cotangent bundles of complete intersections 24/05/2016 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02,
We present the proof of the Debarre Ampleness Conjecture: The cotangent bundle of the intersection X =$H_ 1 $ ∩⋯∩$H_c$ of 𝑐⩾N/2 generic hypersurfaces $H_i$ in ℂℙ$_N$ of high degrees $d_1$,...,$d_c$ ≫1 is ample.
First of all, we provide a geometric interpretation of symmetric differential forms in projective spaces. Thereby, we construct Brotbek’s symmetric differential forms on X, where the defining hypersurfaces $H_ 1 $,...,$H_c$ are generalized Fermat-type. Moreover, we exhibit unveiled families of lower degree symmetric differential forms on all possible intersections of X with coordinate hyperplanes. Thereafter, we introduce what we call the ‘moving coefficients method’ and the ‘product coup’ to settle the Debarre Ampleness Conjecture. In addition, we obtain an effective lower degree bound: $d_1$,...,$d_c$ ⩾$N^(N^2)$.
This talk is based on our first paper available on arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/1510.06323. If time allows, we will also talk about the further developments in our second paper: http://arxiv.org/abs/1601.05133.

+ Slawomir Dinew Complex Hessian equations on manifolds 01/03/2016 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02,
Given a C² smooth function u defined over a domain in C^n, the complex k-Hessian of u is the k^th symmetric sum S_k(u) of the eigenvalues of its Hessian matrix. The associated class of admissible functions is given by the conditions S_j(u) ≥ 0, j = 1, ⋯, k. These interpolate between subharmonic and plurisubharmonic functions. In the talk I will discuss the related potential theory and later I will focus on the solvability of the Dirichlet problem related to the k-Hessian equation in domains and on manifolds. In particular I will sketch an analogue of the Calabi-Yau theorem for these equations. If time permits some geometric applications will be mentioned.

In this talk we will consider Hamiltonian actions of groups of holomorphic Kähler isometries on Kählerian manifolds. In the rare cases where the orbit spaces are smooth it is well known that the corresponding quotient spaces in the sence of Marsen Weinstein are Kähler manifolds as well. In the talk we will explain that the result remains true in complete generality

The flip graph of an orientable punctured surface is the graph whose vertices are the ideal triangulations of the surface (up to isotopy) and whose edges correspond to flips. Its combinatorics is crucial in works of Thurston and Penner’s decorated Teichmuller theory. In this talk we will explore some geometric properties of this graph, in particular we will see that it provides a coarse model of the mapping class group in which the mapping class groups of some subsurfaces are strongly convex. We will also establish some bounds on the growth of the diameter of the flip graph modulo the mapping class group, extending a result of Sleator-Tarjan-Thurston. This is a joint work with Hugo Parlier.

I will briefly explain tropical varieties, and certain currents attached to them, so-called tropical currents. I will address extremality, intersection theory, and approximation problems of tropical currents. I will discuss how in joint work with June Huh, we constructed an example of a ”non-approximable” current, which, in turn, refutes a stronger version of the Hodge conjecture.

+ Joaquim Ortega-Cerdà Equidistribution of Fekete points 17/11/2015 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02,
This is a joint work with Nir Lev. We study the equidistribution of Fekete points in a compact complex manifold. These are extremal point configurations defined through sections of powers of a positive line bundle. Their equidistribution is a known result. The novelty of our approach is that we relate them to the problem of sampling and interpolation on line bundles, which allows us to estimate the equidistribution of the Fekete points quantitatively. In particular we estimate the Kantorovich-Wasserstein distance of the Fekete points to its limiting measure. The sampling and interpolation arrays on line bundles are a subject of independent interest, and we provide necessary density conditions through the classical approach of Landau, that in this context measures the local dimension of the space of sections of the line bundle. We obtain a complete geometric characterization of sampling and interpolation arrays in the case of compact manifolds of dimension one, and we prove that there are no arrays of both sampling and interpolation in the more general setting of semipositive line bundles.
+ Jian Xiao Teissier's proportionality problem in Kähler geometry 13/10/2015 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02,
Around the year 1979, inspired by the Aleksandrov-Fenchel inequalities in convex geometry, Khovanskii and Teissier discovered independently deep inequalities in algebraic geometry which now are called Khovanskii-Teissier inequalities. These inequalities present a nice relationship between convex geometry and algebraic geometry. A natural problem is how to characterize the equality case in these inequalities for a pair of big and nef classes, which was first considered by B. Teissier around the year 1980. Based on the differentiability of the volume function for divisor classes, this problem has been solved for divisor classes on algebraic varieties by Boucksom-Farve-Jonsson. Through a different strategy, using Monge-Ampère equations in big cohomology classes and somebasic pluripotential theory, we solved Teissier's proportionality problem for transcendental classes over compact Kähler manifolds. Indeed, the equality characterization for a pair of classes could be extended easily to any number of big and nef classes. This talk is mainly based on the joint work with Jixiang Fu.
+ Gou Nakamura Compact hyperbolic surfaces with extremal discs 06/10/2015 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02,
A compact hyperbolic surface S of genus g is said to be extremal if it admits an extremal disc, a disc of the largest radius determined by g, where genus g is the number of handles if S is orientable (i.e. a Riemann surface); or the number of cross caps if S is non-orientable (i.e. a Klein surface). A natural question arising here is how many extremal discs are embedded in extremal surfaces. If S is orientable, we know the answer for every genus. In this talk we answer the question in the case that S is a non-orientable surface of genus 6, the final genus in our interest, and present all extremal surfaces admitting more than one extremal disc. The locus of every extremal disc is also obtained. Furthermore we determine the groups of automorphisms for these surfaces.

+ Kathryn Mann Components of representation spaces 23/06/2015 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02,
Let H be a group of homeomorphisms of the circle, and G the fundamental group of a closed surface. The representation space Hom(G, H) is a basic example in geometry and topology: it parametrizes flat circle bundles over the surface with structure group H, or H-actions of G on the circle. W. Goldman proved that connected components of Hom(G, PSL(2, R)) are completely determined by the Euler number, a classical invariant. By contrast, the space Hom(G, Homeo(S1)) is relatively unexplored - for instance, it is an open question whether this space has finitely or infinitely many components.
In this talk, we report on recent work and new tools to distinguish connected components of Hom(G, Homeo(S1)). In particular, we give a new lower bound on the number of components, show that there are multiple components on which the Euler number takes the same value, and identify certain ”geometric” representations which exhibit surprising rigidity
+ Ara Basmajian Arcs, orthogeodesics, and hyperbolic surface identities 09/06/2015 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02,
Let X be a compact hyperbolic surface with either geodesic or horocyclic boundary. The homotopy class (rel the boundary) of a non-trivial arc from the boundary to itself can be realized by an orthogeodesic - a geodesic segment perpendicular to the boundary at its initial and terminal points. This talk is about a special subclass of orthogeodesics called primitive orthogeodesics. In work with Hugo Parlier and Ser Peow Tan we show that the primitive orthogeodesics arise naturally in the study of maximal immersed pairs of pants in X and are intimately connected to regions of X in the complement of the natural collars. These considerations lead to continuous families of new identities - equations that remain constant on the space of hyperbolic structures.
+ Masanori Adachi On a global estimate of the Diederich-Fornaess index of Levi-flat real hypersurfaces. 09/06/2015 15:30
The Diederich-Fornaess index is a numerical index on the strength of certain pseudoconvexity of complex domains. The index is always one for strictly pseudoconvex domains; on the other hand, it was found recently that the index is restricted to certain smaller value for weakly pseudoconvex domains. We would like to review various interpretations of this global estimate of the index for Levi-flat bounded domains and discuss its relation to the conjecture on Levi-flat real hypersurfaces in the complex projective plane. The talk is based on arXiv:1403.3179, 1410.2695 and 1410.2789 including a joint work with J. Brinkschulte.
+ Georg Schumacher The Weil-Petersson current for moduli of vector bundles and applications to orbifolds 26/05/2015 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02,
We investigate stable holomorphic vector bundles on a compact complex Kähler manifold and more generally on an orbifold that is equipped with a Kähler structure. We use the existence of Hermite-Einstein connections in this set-up and construct a generalized Weil-Petersson form on the moduli space of stable vector bundles with fixed determinant bundle. We show that the Weil-Petersson form extends as a (semi-)positive closed current for degenerating families that are restrictions of coherent sheaves. Such an extension will be called a Weil-Petersson current. When the orbifold is of Hodge type, there exists a determinant line bundle on the moduli space; this line bundle carries a Quillen metric, whose curvature coincides with the generalized Weil-Petersson form. As an application we show that the determinant line bundle extends to a suitable compactification of the moduli space.
+ Robin Graham Higher-dimensional Willmore energies via minimal submanifold asymptotics 12/05/2015 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02,
This talk will describe a derivation of a conformally invariant energy for an even-dimensional submanifold of a Riemannian manifold generalizing the Willmore energy of a surface. The energy and its associated Euler-Lagrange equation both arise naturally upon considering the asymptotics of minimal submanifolds in asymptotically Poincaré-Einstein spaces associated to the background conformal manifold.

+ Juan Souto Counting geodesics in hyperbolic surfaces 14/04/2015 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02,
Let S be a hyperbolic surface of genus g at least 2 with n cusps. It is well-known that the cardinality of the set of all geodesics in S of length at most T grows exponentially when T tends to infinity. On the other hand, the number N(T, c) of geodesics of length at most T which are in the mapping class group orbit of a simple closed geodesic c grows polynomially. In fact, if c is a simple closed curve then Mirzakhani proved that the limit of N(T, c)/T6g−6+2n exists and is positive. In this talk I will describe some related results for non-simple closed curves. This is joint work with Viveka Erlandsson.
+ Mark Haskins New G2 holonomy cones and exotic nearly Kähler structures on the 6-sphere and on the product of two 3-spheres 07/04/2015 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02,
A long-standing problem in almost complex geometry has been the question of existence of (complete) inhomogeneous nearly Kähler 6-manifolds. One of the main motivations for this question comes from geometry: the Riemannian cone over a nearly Kähler 6-manifold is a singular space with holonomy G2. Viewing Euclidean 7-space as the cone over the round 6-sphere, the induced nearly Kähler structure is the standard G2-invariant almost complex structure on the 6-sphere induced by octonionic multiplication. We resolve this problem by proving the existence of exotic (inhomogeneous) nearly Kahler metrics on the 6-sphere and also on the product of two 3-spheres. This is joint work with Lorenzo Foscolo, Stony Brook.

We consider the moduli space of G-Higgs bundles over a compact Riemann surface, where G is a complex semisimple Lie group. In this talk we describe Lagrangian submanifolds with respect to the three basic holomorphic symplectic structures defined by the hyperkahler structure of the moduli space, and analyse their relation with representations of the fundamental group of the surface

+ Ruadhai Dervan Stability of twisted constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics 24/02/2015 14:00
An important problem in Kähler geometry is to understand the existence of constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics. One way of constructing such metrics in certain cases is by first solving an auxiliary equation, namely the twisted constant scalar curvature equation. We show that the existence of solutions to this equation implies a form of algebro-geometric stability
+ Shin-ichi Matsumura Versions of injectivity and extension theorems 03/02/2015 14:00 Barre 15-25, 5ème étage, salle 02,
In this talk, I give an injectivity theorem with multiplier ideal sheaves of singular metrics with transcendental singularities. This result can be seen as a generalization of various injectivity and vanishing theorems. The proof is based on a combination of the theory of harmonic integrals and the L²-method for the ̄∂-equation. To treat transcendental singularities, after regularizing a given singular metric, we study the asymptotic behavior of the harmonic forms with respect to a family of the regularized metrics. Moreover we obtain L²-estimates of solutions of the ̄∂-equation by using the Cech complex. As applications of this injectivity theorem, I give some extension theorems for holomorphic sections of pluri-logcanonical bundle from subvarieties to the ambient space. Moreover, by combining techniques of the minimal model program, we obtain some results for semi-ampleness related to the abundance conjecture in birational geometry. This talk is based on the preprint in arXiv:1308.2033v2 and a joint work with Y. Gongyo in arXiv:1406.6132v1
