Résume | Fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE) is a striking experiment, where quantisation phenomena are observed in a lab in a macroscopic system. FQHE is described by Laughlin’s wave functions of N electrons, which physicists prefer to consider on a compact Riemann surface to study analytically. We define these wave functions mathematically and settle the Wen-Niu (1990) conjecture about their topological degeneracy. Work in progress with Dimitri Zvonkine. Time permitting, I will talk about attempts to define these states in complex dimension two (work in progress w/ Mike Douglas and Jie Wang). |
