Résume
I will report on recent joint work with T. Haines and L. Li. We conjecture a stronger form of the expectation that Frobenius acts semisimply on the cohomology of varieties over finite fields. We show that the stronger conjecture implies that the decomposition holds in a strong form if the ground field is finite. We verify that this stronger form of the decomposition theorem holds for convolution morphisms à-la-Luzstig.
