RésumeI would like to describe the present state of understanding of the Favard length rate estimates for self-similar Besicovitch irregular sets of positive and finite length. By duality this is the same as to estimate the area of the union of Kakeya rectangles with a prescribed self-similarity. I would describe the results of M. Bateman, M. Bond, I. Laba, F. Nazarov, Y. Peres and myself. I will also describe the combination of ideas from complex analysis, Fourier analysis, combinatorics and number theory that allowed us to obtain the estimates. However, many problems are still there.
