Le séminaire des thésards est l'occasion pour les doctorants de présenter des résultats et des problématiques dignes d'intérêt devant un public de non-spécialistes. L'ambiance y est informelle ; poser des questions naïves est encouragé, et les questions moins naïves sont bienvenues dans la mesure où elles n'entravent pas le bon déroulement de l'exposé.

Un jeudi sur deux à 18h00, en alternance entre Jussieu et Sophie Germain.

Résume A polygonal billiard is a polygonal shape (possibly with holes) on which an idealized ball flows without friction, bouncing elastically when it hits a side. General polygonal billiards are very mysterious. Therefore, we will quickly restrict our study to rational billiards: the subclass for which the billiard flow can be naturally identified with a linear flow on a “flat” compact surface. These surfaces are called translation surfaces and are interesting on their own. After defining a natural topology on the space of translation surfaces, we will give some insight about the invariants that distinguish its connected components.
