On Mordell-Weil groups of abelian varieties over function fields

I will sketch a construction which, among other things,relates CM of certain abelian varieties over a field k to Mordell-Weil groups of certain abelian varieties over $K=k(t)$. Examples willbe considered were $k$ is a finite field, a number field, or thealgebraic closure of one of these fields.
