| Résume | The vanishing conjecture of Frenkel-Gaitsgory-Vilonen plays
a fundamental role in the geometric Langlands program for GL_n. In
particular, it implies the existence of a Hecke eigensheaf associated
to any irreducible local system. The vanishing conjecture has been
settled by Gaitsgory in 2002. In this talk, I will review its history
and explain a new approach towards its proof via Beilinson's theory of
singular support of constructible sheaves. This is joint work with
Kevin Lin.
