In this talk I will derive an algebraic formula for the Milnor number of a smoothable complex analytic curve
(X,0) by relating it to the Hilbert-Samuel multiplicity of the Jacobian ideal of (X,0), the multiplicity of X at 0, and a new
algebraic invariant -
the complete intersection discrepancy
of (X,0). This is a report on a joint work with
Bengus-Lasnier and Gaffney.
