15h00 - 16h00 Ryomei Iwasa (Université de Copenhague) Cohomology theories of schemes and algebraic K-theory

This talk is based on joint work with Toni Annala. I start with a discussion of what is a cohomology theory of schemes, and propose a theory of “motivic spectra”; any reasonable cohomology theory of schemes, including non-A^1-local theories, is represented by a motivic spectrum in this sense. Then I explain a theory of Chern classes in this generality and, as an application, explain a universal property of K-theory, namely, K-theory is a universal Zariski sheaf of spectra which admits an action of BG_m and satisfies projective bundle formula.

16h50 - 17h50 Giada Grossi (Univ. Paris Nord) (Anti)cyclotomic Iwasawa theory for elliptic curves at Eisenstein primes
Among the most famous algebraic cycles on a modular/elliptic curve we have the so called Heegner points. Striking applications can be obtained studying them in ``p-adic towers’’ and using Iwasawa Theory. I will discuss work in progress with Castella and Skinner on the anticyclotomic and cyclotomic Iwasawa main conjectures at Eisenstein primes p, generalising our earlier paper with J.Lee and the results of Greenberg and Vatsal. As a consequence, we obtain new results on the p-part of the Birch-Swinnerton--Dyer conjecture.

14h00 - 15h00 Gregorio Baldi Special subvarieties of non arithmetic ball quotients
We study complex hyperbolic lattices and prove that, if the associated ball quotient contains infinitely many maximal totally geodesic subvarieties, then the lattice is arithmetic. The idea is to realise such quasi-projective varieties inside a period domain for polarised integral Hodge structures and interpret totally geodesic subvarieties as unlikely intersections. Our theorem is indeed a special case of Klingler’s generalised Zilber-Pink conjecture. This is joint work with Emmanuel Ullmo.

15h30--16h30 Yunqing Tang (CNRS et Orsay) Picard ranks of reductions of K3 surfaces over global fields
For a K3 surface $X$ over a number field with potentially good reduction everywhere, we prove that there are infinitely many primes modulo which the reduction of $X$ has larger geometric Picard rank than that of the generic fiber $X$. A similar statement still holds true for ordinary K3 surfaces with potentially good reduction everywhere over global function fields. In this talk, I will present the proofs via the (arithmetic) intersection theory on good integral models (and its special fibers) of GSpin Shimura varieties. These results are generalizations of the work of Charles on exceptional isogenies between reductions of a pair of elliptic curves. This talk is based on joint work with Ananth Shankar, Arul Shankar, and Salim Tayou and with Davesh Maulik and Ananth Shankar

14h00--15h00 : Morten Lüders (IMJ-PRG) Local to global principles for higher zero-cycles
We explain the relationship between the Tate-Poitou exact sequence, the Kato conjectures and local to global principles for higher Chow groups for smooth projective schemes over global fields. This is joint work with Johann Haas.

15h30--16h30 : Timo Richarz (Technische Universität Darmstadt) The intersection motive of the moduli stack of shtukas
Moduli stacks of shtukas are regarded as function field analogues of Shimura varieties, and their étale cohomology is known to realize the Langlands correspondence for these fields. For the general linear group such a correspondence was established by L. Lafforgue in the 90’s building upon earlier work of Drinfeld. In a recent breakthrough V. Lafforgue constructs the Automorphic to Galois direction of the correspondence for general reductive groups G over function fields. His completely new method makes it possible to systematically analyze the requirements of the cohomology theory needed in order to establish such a correspondence.
In the talk I report on joint work with J. Scholbach which aims at applying the theory of motives as developed by Voevodsky, Levine, Hanamura, Ayoub, Cisinski-Déglise and many others to the constructions in the work of V. Lafforgue. As a first step we show that the intersection (cohomology) motive of the moduli stack of G-shtukas is defined independently of the standard conjectures on motivic t-structures on triangulated categories of motives. Also we establish the analogue of the Geometric Satake Isomorphism of Lusztig, Ginzburg and Mirkovic-Vilonen in this set-up. This is in accordance with general expectations on the independence of $\ell$ in the Langlands correspondence for function fields.

17h00--18h00 : Thomas Krämer (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin) A converse to Riemann's theorem on Jacobian varieties
Jacobians of curves have been studied a lot since Riemann's theorem, which says that their theta divisor is a sum of copies of the curve. Similarly, for intermediate Jacobians of smooth cubic threefolds Clemens and Griffiths showed that the theta divisor is a sum of two copies of the Fano surface of lines on the threefold. We prove that in both cases these are the only decompositions of the theta divisor, extending previous results of Casalaina-Martin, Popa and Schreieder. Our ideas apply to a much wider context and only rely on the decomposition theorem for perverse sheaves and some representation theory.

We expand on the relation between the Faltings height and Harder-Narasimhan theory for finite flat group schemes which was originally observed by Fargues and used in the proof of the CM Northcott Property for the Faltings height. We will also demonstrate in the developments of this theory a particular pathological behavior of the Faltings height, and draw connections to other conjectures.

16h00--17h00 : Marco d'Addezio (Freie Universität, Berlin) Finiteness of perfect torsion points of an abelian variety and F-isocrystals
I will report on a joint work with Emiliano Ambrosi. Let k be a field which is finitely generated over the algebraic closure of a finite field. As a consequence of the theorem of Lang-Néron, for every abelian variety over k which does not admit any isotrivial abelian subvariety, the group of k-rational torsion points is finite. We show that the same is true for the group of torsion points defined on a perfect closure of k. This gives a positive answer to a question posed by Hélène Esnault in 2011. To prove the theorem we translate the problem into a certain question on morphisms of F-isocrystals. Then we handle it by studying the monodromy groups of the F-isocrystals involved.
+ Dustin Clausen, Frédéric Déglise et Thomas Nikolaus Séminaire Autour des cycles algébriques 21/11/2018 14:00 (ATTENTION : SALLE INHABITUELLE) Jussieu, couloir 15-25, salle 502
14h00--15h00 : Frédéric Déglise (Université de Bourgogne et CNRS) t-structures on motives and vanishing
The motivic t-structure on Voevodsky mixed motives is the principal remaining problem of the theory envisioned by Beilinson. A by-product of the theory defined by Voevodsky over a perfect field is the existence of a natural t-structure, the homotopy t-structure. Surprisingly the difference between the homotopy t-structure and the hoped-for motivic t-structure is a priori very small; just one misplaced shift. But the heart of the homotope t-structure is already far from being the category of abelian mixed motives.
One the other hand, the homotopy t-structure has good properties and is amenable to computation. In particular, it can be glued other arbitrary bases, much like the perverse homotopy t-structure. The resulting t-structure was first studied by Ayoub. As we have shown with Bondarko, a major tool in this regard is the use of dimension functions, in close analogy to Gabber's treatment of perverse t-structures. This allows us to improve the results of Ayoub, and give new computations, sometime close to what exists for perverse sheaves.
This leads us to think that the study of the homotopy t-structure might contain the key to establish the existence of the motivic t-structure. Looking back to an old tentative definition of Voevodsky, I will illustrate this feeling by renewing two conjectures of the field, showing that they act as a bridge between the homotopy and motivic t-structures.

15h30--16h30 : Dustin Clausen (Universität Bonn) On Etale K-theory
In general, the etale sheafification operation on presheaves of spectra is completely inexplicit, and etale sheaves of spectra do not have the same good formal properties as etale cohomology does. Nonetheless we show that these troubles don't arise for the etale sheafification of algebraic K-theory, which has surprisingly good properties, including: 1) continuity; 2) hidden functoriality; 3) a strong connection with Weil-style cohomology theories via a "motivic filtration". Furthermore, all of this is valid over a completely general commutative ring. This is joint work with Akhil Mathew, in parts also with Bharghav Bhatt.

17h00--18h00 : Thomas Nikolaus (Universität Münster) Cyclotomic spectra and Cartier modules
We review the notion of cyclotomic spectra and basic examples such as THH. Then we explain how this is related by a t-structure to (integral, p-typical) Cartier modules. This explains nicely the appearance of de Rham Witt complexes in the theory. The comparison relies on the notion of a topological Cartier module. We present examples such as Witt vectors and K-theory of endomorphisms. This is joint work with Ben Antieau.

We discuss the K-theory of categories of modules over a number field, but additionally equipped with a locally compact topology. Although this is not an abelian category, such a category has a natural exact structure, and Pontryagin duality makes it an exact category with duality. Generalizing results of Dustin Clausen, we explain how to compute the K-theory of such categories, and how it is connected to the adeles and other number-theoretical objects. Joint with Peter Arndt.

15h30--16h30 : Kęstutis Česnavičius (Université Paris-Sud, CNRS) Grothendieck--Lefschetz for vector bundles
According to the Grothendieck--Lefschetz theorem from SGA 2, there are no nontrivial line bundles on the punctured spectrum U_R of a local ring R that is a complete intersection of dimension ≥4. Hailong Dao isolated a condition on a vector bundle V of arbitrary rank on U_R, always satisfied by a line bundle, and conjectured that its validity is necessary and sufficient for V to be trivial. We use deformation theoretic techniques to settle Dao's conjecture and present examples showing that its assumptions are sharp.

17h00--18h00 : Adam Topaz (University of Oxford) Recovering function fields from their ℓ-adic cohomology
This talk will present some recent work in progress which shows that the function field of a higher-dimensional variety is determined, up-to isomorphism, from its ℓ-adic cohomology ring, when it is endowed with the Galois action of a "sufficiently global" base field. A comparison with Bogomolov's programme and the Bogomolov-Pop conjecture in birational anabelian geometry will also be discussed.

We report on joint work-in-progress with A. Pál. Let X/k be a smooth variety over a finite field and let L be a rank 2 local system on X that is absolutely irreducible and has infinite image. We conjecture that L "comes from a family of abelian varieties". If one assumes a full set of (p-adic) companions, we show how to reduce this conjecture (in the projective case) to curves.

14:00--15:00 Florian Ivorra (Freiburg, Rennes) On the six operations for perverse motivic sheaves
Let k be a subfield of the complex numbers. Though it is not known to satisfy all the expected properties (especially the relations with the Chow groups), Nori’s (unconditional) category of mixed motives has been so far one of the best candidates for Grothendieck's conjectural category of mixed motives over k.
After recalling Nori’s tannakian construction, I will explain how it is possible to use the triangulated categories of étale motives constructed by Morel-Voevodsky and studied by Ayoub to define an Abelian category of perverse motivic sheaves over any k-variety (so that a perverse motive over a point is simply a Nori motive). Then, I will discuss the construction of the six operations on (the derived categories of) perverse motives, focusing mainly on the issue of nearby cycles functors and inverse image functors.
This is joint work with Sophie Morel.

15:30--16:30 Hiroyasu Miyazaki (IMJ-PRG) On the nil higher Chow groups with modulus
The algebraic K-groups do not satisfy the homotopy invariance in general. The nil K-groups are defined as the obstruction to the homotopy invariance. C. Weibel proved that the nil K-groups admit module structures over the big Witt ring of the base field, and he deduced several structure theorems. Binda-Saito's higher Chow groups with modulus can be regarded as a cycle-theoretic analogue of the relative K-groups, which are not homotopy invariant in general.
In this talk, we will define the nil higher Chow groups with modulus as the obstruction to the homotopy invariance, and we will construct module structures over the big Witt ring of the base field. If time permits, I will also explain a similar result on Kahn-Saito-Yamazaki's reciprocity sheaves.

17:00--18:00 Matthew Morrow (IMJ-PRG) Some recent progress on motivic filtrations on algebraic K-theory
I will give an introduction to some aspects of the Lichtenbaum—Quillen conjecture and the existence of Atiyah—Hirzebruch motivic filtrations on algebraic K-theory, before presenting some new results in the case of p-adic K-theory in characteristic p via syntomic methods. This will include in particular a motivic cohomology theory with modulus, which describes the wild part of algebraic K-theory relative to a normal crossing divisor. 14:30--15:30 : Miscellaneous on companions
16:00--17:00 : The Betti to ℓ-adic proof.
Joint work with Michael Groechenig.
If we dropped ‘Cohomologically’ from the title, this would be a complete (positive) answer to Simpson’s conjecture.
We prove the conjecture under the (perhaps?) stronger assumption that the local systems are cohomologically rigid. Our proof can’t be extended to the case of rigid connections, and I shall explain why.
Initially, in the projective case, our proof consisted in going to the de Rham side, showing that the restriction of the connection on the p-adic varieties is a Frobenius isocrystal, descend mod p, considering the ℓ-adic companions (the existence of which has been proven recently by Abe and myself) and going back to the complex numbers by showing that the induced local systems stemming from the companions are still cohomologically rigid. This last step requires the study of weights and the L-functions of the companions.
The new proof is purely Betti-ℓ-adic. To produce ℓ-adic companions, one has to be able to descend the representation completed at an integral place to the arithmetic fundamental group of the mod p-variety. This requires a variant of a classical argument of Simpson. In doing so one has to make sure that one keeps the conditions at infinity. The companions one uses are now ℓ-adic and have been constructed a few years ago by Drinfeld. One then proves that the formation of companions in our situation preserves the conditions at infinity (this relies on a theorem of Deligne) and one proves, again using weights, that the induced complex local systems are cohomologically rigid as well.
This proof does not request the projective geometry one needs to prove the F-isocrystal theorem mentioned above. For this reason it can be performed in this generality.
We thank Pierre Deligne for putting us under pressure so we do not restrict our proof to the projective case. His understanding of intersection cohomology of the local systems considered plays an important role in the proof.
For lack of time, I won’t lecture on the F-isocrystals

Superconnections and applications to special cycles
I will discuss a construction, using Quillen's superconnections, of some natural differential forms on the period domains parametrizing polarized Hodge structures on a fixed rational vector space V. These forms depend on a vector v of V and have a Gaussian shape that peaks on the locus where v becomes a Hodge class. For hermitian symmetric domains we will see that they agree with some forms introduced by Kudla and Millson to study special cycles on Shimura varieties. As an application (joint work with S. Sankaran) we will define natural Green forms for special cycles and will compute the corresponding archimedean local heights, making progress on a conjecture of Kudla.

Characteristic class and the epsilon factor of a constructible étale sheaf
In this talk, we will firstly recall the definitions and the properties of singular support and characteristic cycle of a constructible étale sheaf on a smooth variety. The singular support, defined by Beilinson, is a closed conical subset of the cotangent bundle. The characteristic cycle, constructed by Saito, is a $\mathbb Z$-linear combination of irreducible components of the singular support. This theory is an algebraic analogue of that studied by Kashiwara and Schapira in a transcendental setting.
In the second part of this talk we will focus on the joint work with Umezaki. We prove a conjecture of Kato-Saito on a twist formula for the epsilon factor of a constructible étale sheaf on a projective smooth variety over a finite field. In our proof, Beilinson and Saito's theory plays an essential role.
